Upcoming Changes to Workspace ONE UEM Windows and SQL Supported Versions

Upcoming End Of Support details for Windows Server OS and Windows SQL Server 2012 and 2014.

As VMware continues to implement additional features and security enhancements we often need to revisit the underlying system landscape and ensure that those features or enhancements can be supported. In our upcoming releases we have identified that certain Server OS and SQL versions cannot meet our latest set of minimum technology requirements. As such VMware will be deprecating support for several Operating System Versions in the next major release. 

See below for the highlights of which server OS's will be removed from support with context & reasoning why.

Server Deprecation Scheduled for v2302

  • Windows Server 2012 R2
    • Windows Server 2012 R2 end of life is upcoming and will reach the end of support on October 10, 2023
    • Additionally security enhancements will necessitate a version of IIS which can only be achieved with a minimum server version of Windows 2016 (IIS10)
  • Windows SQL Server 2012 Standard
    • SQL Server 2012 has reached end of life as of July 22, 2022
    • Additionally newer Workspace ONE UEM features will require the use of SQL partitioning which require either Windows SQL server 2016 (Standard or Enterprise) or lower Enterprise licensed SQL versions
  • Windows SQL Server 2012 Enterprise
    • SQL Server 2012 has reached end of life as of July 22, 2022
  • Windows SQL Server 2014 Standard
    • Newer Workspace ONE UEM features will require the use of SQL partitioning which require either Windows SQL server 2016 (Standard or Enterprise) or lower Enterprise licensed SQL versions
